July is almost over. Normal service is to return in August.

I’m still in Canada but August sees me back from my travels. You’ve been seeing little articles from me about all sorts of subjects during July.

Yes, yes, yes I write articles about London history on Substack. On YouTube meanwhile I’m walking between every London Underground station. Here’s my latest edited walk between Liverpool Street and Aldgate East. Historian Ruth Goodman makes a cameo appearance though I didn’t notice her and she didn’t notice me either!

I tend not to use Substack to sell merch. But should you want an Underground-themed mug for your coffee, well I do have a shop for that. But I won’t go around endlessly plugging the shop. Actually I’m not sure I’ll continue for too long with it as it costs me more to run than mugs are sold!

Not only are current stations featured but closed ones, lines that never happened, renamed stations and retro mugs for stations that changed lines. Enjoy Turnpike Lane then but you could be enjoying a cup of tea out of Elstree (South).

NOTE: This all started five years ago when I discovered that the roundel, typeface and other design features of the London Underground are definitely TfL copyright but that station ‘ticks’ and junctions aren’t, And that there’s a Windows font called ‘London Tube’ designed by somebody which is really really like Johnson Bold but isn’t quite.
